About Us
GOPIO (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin), established in New York in 1989, is a non-partisan, apolitical organization uniting the global Indian diaspora. It works for community betterment, embodying the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam"—the world is one family.
GOPIO initially focused on combating human rights violations against people of Indian origin (PIOs). While progress has been made, these issues persist. Today, GOPIO prioritizes pooling financial and professional resources to benefit PIOs, their host countries, and India.

01 VISION
GOPIO, aims to bring people of Indian Origin in the World together to promote their professional, cultural and social interests with a view to realizing their maximum potential in the service of Global peace, prosperity, happiness and compassion.

1. GOPIO provides a platform for people of India origins to network together for mutual development and advancement.
2. To promote the common cultural heritage and legacy of Indians.
3. To energize professional and intellectual resources of Indians in the world in order to realize their maximum potentialities.
4. To contribute to global peace, prosperity, happiness and compassion.

03 OBJECTIVES
1. To promote legitimate interests of the People of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) as a resident in countries outside India.
2. To promote the common cultural heritage of PIOs/NRIs.
3. To mobilize professional, financial and intellectual resources of the community of PIOs/NRIs for their mutual advancement and for the development of their country of origin and the country of their residence.
4. To organize interaction between PIOs/NRIs on a global level to deliberate and decide on common issues and problems facing them, including assimilation and adaptation within the host society.
5. To provide a forum at periodical intervals to discuss, debate and decide on common problems and issues facing groups of PIOs/NRIs and initiate measures to redress their grievances.
6. To disseminate regularly information on global, regional and national developments affecting PIOs/NRIs as a whole or substantial parts thereof.
7. To further the interaction between PIOs/NRIs and other communities at global level in promoting world peace, progress and ecological harmony.
8. To develop channels of communication between groups of PIOs/NRIs in different countries and between them and India.
9. To raise funds through contributions and other means on regular basis and at special occasions for promoting social, cultural and developmental activities in India and at a global level as well for the relief and rehabilitation of PIOs/NRIs affected by natural and other calamities.
10. To constitute Think Tanks and Task Forces of PIOs/NRIs on particular issues of interest to the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) or to India.
GOPIO Bahrain Chapter operates under nine Councils, namely, Human Rights, Cultural, Academic, Media, Health & Wellness, Youth, Women, Science & Technology and Seniors to serve the diverse interests of the global Indian community. -

Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), founded in 1989 during the inaugural international convention of People of Indian Origin (PIO) in New York, emerged from a shared desire to establish a unifying platform for individuals of Indian origin worldwide. Evolving into a well defined organisation with members spanning the globe, GOPIO has been pivotal in advocating for PIO interests across various nations, including Fiji, Sri Lanka, Trinidad, the USA, Europe, and Australia.

GOPIO was formed at the first convention of PIOs
1993
At the 2nd Global convention in New Delhi, GOPIO adopted its constitution and held the first election according to the new Constitution
1994
GOPIO proposed PIO card to Government. of India
1995
Release of the book "Indian Diaspora: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow" in New York.
1997
Freedom 50 Conference to celebrate India's 50th Independence Day, held over three months from June to August - in New York
1999
GOPIO's 10th Anniversary Celebrations & GOPIO Convention '99, New York held in September
2001
GOPIO accredited by the UN as NGO to participate in the World Conference against Racism with a 10-member delegation

GOPIO'S 20th Anniversary celebration & Convention in August
2010
The GOPIO book "Global Indian Diaspora-GOPIO Making in Impact" released by Ambassador Nirupama Rao

The 25th (Jubilee) Anniversary Convention was organized in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago in May
